Australian Standard Method of Measurement (ASSM):

  • Section 8
  • We use the ASSM to describe the scope for stonework work as a guide only
  • Any agreed or contract scope of work will more than likely vary from the scope of work under the ASSM
  • The scope of work set out in Rawlinsons also varies from the scope of work under the ASSM
  • The ASSM often includes the same items of work under multiple Sections

Scope of work under ASSM:

  • Natural stonework including footings | walls | wall linings | quoins, pilasters, pilasters sunk to entasis and jambs | caps and bases to pilasters, springers, voussoirs, keystones, caps and bases to columns | columns and columns sunk to entasis | fireplaces and chimney stacks | isolated piers | attached piers | plinths, string courses, corbelling and similar projections from walls | lintels | arches | flush, recessed or projected quoins, horizontal or vertical bands, string courses, cornices and similar items | flush, recessed or projecting panels | landings | treads, risers and steps | hearths | kerbs, fender and similar items | borders, etc | shelving, etc | architraves | archivolts | copings, etc | templates | notches | perforations | mortices | polishing | irregular angles | splayed angles | rounded angles | levelling up in random walling | forming straight vertical joints | special metal supporting brackets, shelf angles and similar items | mullions, transoms and reveal linings | stoolings, balusters, finials, crockets, terminals and similar items | exposed edges, chamfers, splays, grooves, flutings and similar items | stonework checked, sunk or specially cut | running ornaments | carving, sculpture, boasting for carving, working mouldings and similar up to carving | pavings | skirtings | coves
