Groundworks

Australian Standard Method of Measurement (ASSM):

  • Section 4
  • We use the ASSM to describe the scope for groundworks as a guide only
  • Any agreed or contract scope of work will more than likely vary from the scope of work under the ASSM
  • The scope of work set out in Rawlinsons also varies from the scope of work under the ASSM
  • The ASSM often includes the same items of work under multiple Sections

Scope of work under ASSM:

  • Excavation including siteworks | surface preparation to reduce levels | basement and similar excavations | pit excavation | trench excavation | bored excavation | cuttings | tunnelling | surface preparation | working space and/or maintaining faces | designed shoring
  • Filing and Hardcore including filing in beds | filling behind retaining walls, etc | filling over site, filling to slopes over 30 degrees from the horizontal | surface preparation
  • Paper and plastic membranes including paper, plastic and similar membranes
  • Underpinning including excavation to provide access | excavation directly below the base of the work to be under pinned | maintain faces | cutting away old concrete or other foundations | cutting away isolated and similar items | concrete, brickwork and similar items in underpinning | grouting, designed shoring
  • Rock stabilization including drilling for rock bolts | bolts | rock anchors, ground anchors | grouting | tightening | rock bolts and anchors to specified capacities

Australian/New Zealand Standards:

  • AS 4744.1 Steel Shoring & Trench Lining Equipment Part 1: Design
  • AS 4744.1-2000 Steel shoring and trench lining equipment
  • AS 5047-2005 Hydraulic shoring and trench lining equipment
  • Other Standards may deal with associated or related aspects of demolition work
  • Other relevant Standards or Guidelines
  • AS 2870.1-1988 Residential slabs and footings - Part 1: Construction.
  • AS 3660.1-1995 Protection of Buildings from Subterranean Termites - Part 1: New Buildings.
